Hill-Murray beats Simley 10-2 as LaValle gets hat trick

Zach LaValle netted a hat trick to lead the Hill-Murray Pioneers over the Simley Spartans, 10-2.

LaValle's first goal came 8:13 into the first period. He then added goals at 8:10 into the second and at 16:16 into the third.

Hill-Murray's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Simley power plays. The Pioneers' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Hill-Murray averages 5.4 goals per contest. By firing 38 shots on goal, the Pioneers exceeded the 2.4 shots they average per game this year.

Hill-Murray additionally got points from Joey Anderson, who also registered two goals and one assist, Josh French, who also had one goal and three assists, Willie Brown, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Mitch Slattery, who also had one goal and three assists. Hill-Murray also got a goal from Zach Mills as well. In addition, Hill-Murray received assists from Davis Zarembinski, Curt LaChappelle, Colten Greeder, and Jacob Olson, who contributed one a piece and Ryan Black and Tyler Funk, who each chipped in two.

Simley managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Spartans wound up below its season average of 11.0 penalty minutes per game. Simley did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 14 shots on net to force 12 saves.

The Spartans were helped by Gage Gustafson, who registered one goal. Gustafson scored 44 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hill-Murray. Pat Short provided the assist. Mitch Vogel also scored for Simley. More assists for Simley came via Ben Illetschko, who had one and Ben Rauschnot, who had two.

Hill-Murray's Sam Illgen stopped 12 shots out of the 14 that he faced. The Pioneers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Joe Bade rejected 28 shots on goal for Simley.
