Matt Bonine lifted the Mahtomedi Zephyers to a 6-1 victory with a hat trick against the Simley Spartans.

Bonine got on the scoresheet 13:52 into the second period. He then added goals at 40 seconds into the third and at 12:25 into the third.

Mahtomedi managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Zephyers wound up below its season average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game. Mahtomedi kept Simley's goalie busy throughout the game, and Zach Boughton made 46 saves on 52 shots. The Zephyers outdid their season average for goals scored. Mahtomedi averages 3.9 goals per game. The Zephyers capitalized on the Spartans' penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage.

Adam Boben also scored for Mahtomedi. More assists for Mahtomedi came via Jake Erickson, who had three and Kellen Campbell, Trevor Keeney, and Mac Rathmanner, who each chipped in one.

Simley did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 11 shots on net to force 10 saves.

The Spartans were led by Ben Illestchko, who scored the team's only goal. Illestchko scored 3:44 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Mahtomedi. Ben Rauschnot assisted on the tally.

Colin Denis made 10 saves for Mahtomedi on 11 shots. Simley incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors and had no power play opportunities.
