Johnson's hat trick boosts St. Thomas Academy over Totino-Grace, 6-1

Alex Johnson netted a hat trick to lead the St. Thomas Academy Cadets over the Totino-Grace Eagles, 6-1.

Johnson got on the scoresheet 4:46 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:39 into the second and at 1:35 into the third.

St. Thomas Academy was led by goalie David Zevnik, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. Zevnik certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.56 entering the contest.

The Cadets stifled Totino-Grace's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 41 shots on target during the contest, St. Thomas Academy exceeded the 1.7 shot it averages per game this year.

Peter Tufto also scored for St. Thomas Academy. In addition, St. Thomas Academy received assists from T.J. Samec and Tom Novak, who contributed one a piece and Jack Dougherty and Christiano Versich, who each chipped in two.

The Eagles' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three St. Thomas Academy power plays. Totino-Grace could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Eagles average 5.5 goals per game. Totino-Grace gave up more goals than its normal season average. The Eagles give up 2.3 goals per game.

Totino-Grace was led by Derek Lodermeier, who scored the team's only goal. Lodermeier scored 3:14 into the first period to make the score 1-1. TJ Roo provided the assist.

The Cadets incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Michael Larson recorded 35 saves for the Eagles. Totino-Grace incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
