Bonine's big game bests Henry Sibley in 5-2 Mahtomedi win

Matt Bonine had two goals and one assist to lead the Mahtomedi Zephyers to a 5-2 victory over the Henry Sibley Warriors.

Bonine found the back of the net 2:53 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Mahtomedi and again while 6:28 into the third to make the score 5-0 Mahtomedi.

Mahtomedi's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Henry Sibley power plays. The Zephyers' offense rang up 34 shots on Henry Sibley's net. Mahtomedi got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Mahtomedi additionally got points from Zack Taylor, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Trevor Dittberner also scored for Mahtomedi. Other players who recorded assists for Mahtomedi were Kellen Campbell, who had two and McQuaid Boo, Jake Erickson, Tanner Mireault, Mac Rathmanner, and Jack Becker, who contributed one a piece.

The Warriors were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Colin Denis recorded 16 saves for the Zephyers. Mahtomedi incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Henry Sibley's Cody Dornbusch stopped 29 shots out of the 34 that he faced.
