Simley High School    Sat, Jan 05, 2013

The Farmington Tigers' Tanner Grubb scored 3:55 into overtime to beat the Simley Spartans, 3-2 (OT).

In the losing effort, Simley was sparked by Ben Illestchko, who had two goals. Illestchko scored the first of his two goals at 5:03 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Simley. Nick Battis picked up the assist. Illestchko's next tally made the score 2-1 Simley with 5:54 left in the second period. A hooking penalty on Corey Rudrud had put the Spartans on the power play. Nick Kemp provided the assist.

Farmington was led by Grubb, who finished with one goal.

Grant Hauswirth also scored for Farmington. More assists for Farmington came via Justin Novak and Jack Erickson, who contributed one a piece.

Simley put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Tigers to score on any of their five power plays.

Farmington's Gage Overby stopped 15 shots out of the 17 that he faced. The Tigers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Joe Bade rejected 23 shots on goal for the Spartans. Simley totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
