Wayzata hangs on, beats Holy Family Catholic 3-1

Jack Sorensen gave the Wayzata Trojans the lead in the first period, and the Holy Family Catholic Fire was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

Sorensen provided Wayzata with the game-winning tally when he scored 5:23 into the the first period. Robert Zitzlperger assisted on the tally.

Matthew Freytag was all over the ice for the Trojans, as he had two goals in the win. Freytag's tallies came at 13:41 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wayzata and 5:21 into the third to make the score 3-1 Wayzata.

Wayzata excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. With 19 shots on target during the contest, the Trojans exceeded the 7.0 shots they average per game this year.

Wayzata also got points from Sorensen, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Wayzata came via Alex Stevens, Chase Heising, and Jacob Moelk, who contributed one a piece.

Holy Family Catholic stifled Wayzata's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Fire could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Holy Family Catholic averages 4.3 goals per game. The Fire's offense was clicking better than usual and put 21 shots on goal during the game, better than the 3.2 shots per game they average.

Holy Family Catholic was led by Will Garin, who scored the team's only goal. Garin scored 10:15 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wayzata. Jonh Peterson picked up the assist.

Aaron Dingman made 20 saves for the Trojans on 21 shots. Wayzata incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Derek LaCombe rejected 16 shots on goal for the Fire. Holy Family Catholic ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
