Koepke's big game bests New Prague in 9-1 Hermantown win

Behind a great game by Travis Koepke, who had four goals and one assist, the Hermantown Hawks defeated the New Prague Spartans, 9-1.

Koepke's first goal came 15:00 into the first period. He then added goals at 15:09 into the first, at 16:50 into the second, and at 3:49 into the third.

New Prague was stymied by Hermantown netminder Jace Thomas, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Thomas managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.57 prior to the game.

The Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Spartans to score on any of their five power plays. Hermantown forced New Prague goalie Evan Bisek to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Hermantown also got points from Bo Gronseth, who also registered one goal and three assists, Ryan Kero, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Chris Benson, who also had two goals and three assists. Hermantown also got a goal from Ryan Carlson as well. In addition, Hermantown received assists from Joe Muehlbauer, Christian Wasbotten, Jake Zeleznikar, Nate Pionk, and Lane LeGarde, who contributed one a piece.

The Spartans could not produce up to they normal offensive output. New Prague puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game.

The Spartans were led by Nick Sampson, who scored the team's only goal. Sampson scored 12:26 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kain Wagner picked up the assist.

The Hawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Bisek recorded 28 saves for New Prague. The Spartans incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
