Annett nets hat trick, leads Chaska to 7-4 win over New Ulm

Derek Annett netted a hat trick to lead the Chaska Hawks over the New Ulm Eagles, 7-4.

Annett's first goal came 7:33 into the second period. He then added goals at 15:29 into the second and at 8:43 into the third.

Chaska forced New Ulm goalie Brach Kraus to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. The Hawks found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Chaska averages 3.6 goals per contest. The Hawks' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to the Eagles' power play unit. The defensemen of Chaska were also effective in New Ulm's zone, and came away with two goals.

Chaska additionally got points from Cade Gersich, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Mitch Kirchoff, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Brooks Wineberg, who also had one goal and two assists. Chaska also got a goal from Josh Winslow as well. In addition, Chaska received assists from Eric Maki, Austin Hardy, Garrett Paulzine, and Andrew Henke, who contributed one a piece.

The Eagles were led by Brandon Helget, who registered two goals. Helget scored the first of his two goals at 12:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Ulm. Ethan Kraus provided the assist. Helget's next tally made the score 2-1 New Ulm with 12:09 left in the second period. New Ulm had gotten the advantage when the Hawks' Kirchoff was sent off for interference. Wyatt Peterson picked up the assist. New Ulm also got points from Blake Neumann, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jon Kopacek also scored for New Ulm. Other players who recorded assists for New Ulm were Cole Dulas and Alex Stark, who each chipped in one.

Blake Jackson rejected 19 shots on goal for Chaska. The Hawks totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 2-for-2 on the power play. Kraus recorded 35 saves for the Eagles. New Ulm ended with seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major.
