GAME RECAP

Northfield uses early goal to top Shakopee, 3-1

Northfield Arena    Fri, Jan 25, 2013

The Northfield Raiders beat the Shakopee Sabers, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Andrew Scofield provided Northfield with the game-winning tally when he scored 15:47 into the the first period.

The Raiders got the win with help from a great game by Scofield, who had two goals and one assist.

Northfield's Spencer Jones was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Jones will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.11.

The Raiders' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Shakopee power plays. Shakopee was unable to stop Northfield from sending pucks towards the net, and the Raiders eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

Northfield also got a goal from Alex Morsching as well. More assists for Northfield came via Logan VonRuden and Nathan Scofield, who contributed one a piece.

The Sabers forced Northfield goalie Jones to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Shakopee was led by Sam Scott, who scored the team's only goal. Scott scored 2:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Northfield. Sheldon Miks provided the assist.

The Raiders totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Sean Surbaugh made 38 saves for the Sabers on 41 shots. Shakopee incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
