Northfield falls to Mankato West after surprising comebackNorthfield Arena Mon, Jan 14, 2013 The Mankato West Scarlets rallied from two goals down to secure a 5-4 win over the Northfield Raiders. Mankato West let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Scarlets took a 2-1 advantage on a goal by Tyler Loe at 16:07 in the first period. Mankato West found itself down 4-2 after Northfield's Logan VonRuden put the puck home on the power play at 9:53 in the second period. After evening things up at 4-4 on a goal by Derek Frentz at 15:20 in the third, the Scarlets got the game-winner from Frentz at 16:34 in the third period. Mankato West forced the Raiders goalie Spencer Jones to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Scarlets took advantage of Northfield's penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities. Mankato West could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game. Mankato West also got points from Nick Campbell, who also registered one goal and two assists and Loe, who also had one goal and three assists. In addition, Mankato West received assists from Scott McKissick, who had one and Max Mettler, who had two. The Raiders' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. Northfield was helped by Alexander Morschiing, who racked up two goals. Morschiing scored the first of his two goals at 37 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Northfield. Andrew Scofield provided the assist. Morschiing's next tally made the score 3-2 Northfield with 16:25 left in the second period. Scofield picked up the assist. Northfield additionally got points from VonRuden, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Taylor Freiermuth, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Northfield were Nathan Scofield, who had one. The Scarlets' Jake Spiess stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Jones rejected 27 shots on goal for the Raiders. Northfield incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
