Chaska wins tough contest against Chanhassen, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Chaska Hawks escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Chanhassen Storm.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Brooks Wineberg at 4:41 of the third period.

Wineberg was all over the ice for Chaska, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Wineberg scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:46 into the third period to make the score 3-3. The Hawks had gained a power play chance when Ryan Schwarz was whistled for tripping. Josh Winslow picked up the assist. Wineberg's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Chaska with 15:19 left in the third period. Chaska had taken the advantage when Chanhassen's Reid Meyer got sent off for interference. Carter Schmidt provided the assist.

The Storm were unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Chaska eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Hawks struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 14 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Chaska additionally got points from Schmidt, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Cade Gersich, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Mitch Kirchoff, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Chaska came via Andrew Henke, who had one.

Chanhassen forced Chaska goalie Blake Jackson to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Storm were led by Logan Wilkinson, who registered two goals. Wilkinson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chanhassen. A holding penalty on Kirchoff had put Chanhassen on the power play. Bryson Burkholder picked up the assist. Wilkinson's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Chanhassen with 15:35 left in the second period. The Storm earned a power play opportunity when Garrett Paulzine was put in the box for hooking. Jake Theis provided the assist. Jack Spillers also scored for Chanhassen. In addition, Chanhassen received assists from Cole Robertson and Collin Seal, who contributed one a piece.

Jackson rejected 31 shots on goal for the Hawks. Chaska registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Chanhassen's Erik Anderson stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Storm incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
