Hopkins wins tough contest against Chanhassen, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Hopkins Royals escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Chanhassen Storm.

Hopkins gained the winning advantage on a goal by Matthew Anderson 9:51 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Royals were paced by Anderson, who racked up one goal.

By firing 27 shots on goal, Hopkins exceeded the 4.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Hopkins also got points from Jim Copouls, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Jonah Shoemaker-Gagnon also scored for Hopkins. In addition, Hopkins received assists from Joshua Laven, who had two.

Chanhassen excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

The Storm were helped by Riley Meyer, who grabbed one goal. Meyer scored 2:58 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Chanhassen. Bryson Burkholder picked up the assist. Chanhassen additionally got points from Luke Rongitsch, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Chanhassen were Michael Gmiterko and Jake Bever, who contributed one a piece.

Josh Kuehmichel made 22 saves for the Royals on 24 shots. Hopkins ended with 32 minutes in penalty time with one minor and two majors. For the Royals, Ryan Kimbrel and Trace Bolstad were ejected from the contest. Harlin Paradise rejected 24 shots on goal for Chanhassen. The Storm totaled 34 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Team's Jack Spillers and Bever were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
