Edina shrugs off penalties, upends Hopkins, 2-0

The Hopkins Royals failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Edina Hornets shook off a number of penalties to win, 2-0.

Edina was led by Bo Brauer, who tallied one goal. Brauer scored 1:01 into the third period to make the score 1-0 Edina. Tyler Nanne provided the assist.

The Hornets' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Hopkins power plays. Edina's defense was surprisingly good. The Hornets gives up 2.1 goals on average per game. The 36 shots that Edina put on net surpassed the Hornets' average of 13.4 shots per game this season. Edina could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Dylan Malmquist also scored for Edina. More assists for Edina came via Cullen Munson, Andy Jordahl, and Connor Hurley, who contributed one a piece.

Hopkins excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Royals did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Hopkins averages 2.6 goals per game. By firing 19 shots on goal, the Royals exceeded the 1.3 shot they average per game this year.

The Hornets' Willie Benjamin stopped 19 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Josh Kuehmichel rejected 34 shots on goal for Hopkins. The Royals incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
