Edina erases deficit to stun Eden Prairie, 5-4Eden Prairie Community Center Thu, Jan 31, 2013 Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Edina Hornets battled back to claim a 5-4 victory over the Eden Prairie Eagles. Edina never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Hornets fell behind 4-2 after a goal by Eden Prairie's Mason Bergh at 3:18 in the second period. Edina knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Dylan Malmquist at 1:02 in the third period. The Hornets netted the game winner short handed at 16:21 in the second period on a goal by Malmquist. Edina was sparked by Malmquist, who finished with one goal and one assist. The Hornets put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 13.9 they average per game. Edina struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Eagles to score two power play goals on three chances. The defense for the Hornets played an important role offensively, racking up 15 shots on goal. Edina also got a goal from Hayden Anderson as well. In addition, Edina received assists from Parker Reno, who had two, Connor Hurley, who had three, and Anthony Walsh and Matt Nelson, who each chipped in one. Eden Prairie excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. By firing 23 shots on goal, the Eagles exceeded the 10.9 shots they average per game this year. Eden Prairie was helped by Andrew Knudsen, who registered two goals. Knudsen scored the first of his two goals at 9:47 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Eden Prairie. Knudsen's next tally made the score 3-2 Eden Prairie with 5:57 left in the first period. The Eagles had taken the advantage when Edina's Ben Foley got sent off for tripping. Luc Snuggerud picked up the assist. Eden Prairie additionally got points from Bergh, who also had one goal and one assist. Colton Schmidt also scored for Eden Prairie. More assists for Eden Prairie came via Steven Spinner, who had three. Willie Benjamin recorded 19 saves for the Hornets. Edina incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Jake Kielly made 25 saves for Eden Prairie on 30 shots. The Eagles incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
