Northfield completes comeback, beats Shakopee, 3-2

The Shakopee Sabers could not hold down the Northfield Raiders, and Raiders erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 3-2 win.

Northfield never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Raiders fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Shakopee's Bubba Kubes at 9:52 in the first period. Northfield tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Logan VonRuden at 9:59 in the second period. The Raiders got the game winner at 10:55 in the third period on a goal by VonRuden.

Northfield was sparked by Torr Legvold, who had one goal.

The Sabers were unable to stop the Raiders from sending pucks towards the net, and Northfield eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Northfield also got a goal from Taylor Freiermuth as well.

Shakopee managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Sabers wound up below its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game. Shakopee found itself stymied offensively, and got off a mere 11 shots against the Raiders' defense.

The Sabers were helped by Cullen Sievek, who grabbed one goal. Sievek scored on the power play 9:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Shakopee. Shakopee had gotten the advantage when Northfield's VonRuden was sent off for tripping. More assists for Shakopee came via Sam Scott, who had one.

Spencer Jones made nine saves for the Raiders on 11 shots. Northfield incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Sean Surbaugh recorded 30 saves for the Sabers. Shakopee registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
