Winters' big game bests Shakopee in 9-1 Rosemount win

The Rosemount Irish were firing on all cylinders against the Shakopee Sabers, and when the final buzzer sounded Irish emerged with a 9-1 win.

Anthony Winters was all over the ice for Rosemount, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Winters scored the first of his two goals at 5:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Rosemount. Bryan Herman assisted on the tally. Winters' next tally made the score 3-0 Rosemount with 11:10 left in the first period. Ryan Foley provided the assist.

Shakopee's power play was ineffective against the Irish's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Rosemount racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The Irish had been averaging 11.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Sabers were unable to stop Rosemount from sending pucks towards the net, and the Irish eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Rosemount surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Irish average 4.0 goals per contest. Rosemount's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Rosemount additionally got points from Zach Bichler, who also had one goal and one assist. Rosemount also had goals scored by Lukas Gillett, who had three and Justin Crowell, Garrett Eiden, and Austin Anderson, who each put in one. More assists for Rosemount came via Luke Meade, who had two and Andrew Glad and Nick Peterson, who each chipped in one.

The Shakopee penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled four minors and three majors for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 13.0 minutes per game the Sabers had been spending in the box. Shakopee did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Sabers put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game.

Torin Anderson rejected 20 shots on goal for the Irish. Rosemount registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Shakopee's Sean Surbaugh stopped 28 shots out of the 37 that he faced.
