Chisago Lakes Area wins tough contest against Spring Lake Park, 4-3Fogerty Arena - North Rink Thu, Feb 07, 2013 In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Chisago Lakes Area Wildcats escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Spring Lake Park Panthers. Chisago Lakes Area gained the winning advantage on a goal by Daniel Sargeant 13:07 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer. The Wildcats was effective with a man advantage, and put in three goals while on the power play. Chisago Lakes Area could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. The Wildcats were led by Landon Lushanko, who grabbed two goals. Lushanko scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chisago Lakes Area. A roughing penalty on Pete Seinko had put Chisago Lakes Area on the power play. Trevor Lushanko picked up the assist. Lushanko's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Chisago Lakes Area with 4:00 left in the first period. The Wildcats had taken the advantage when Spring Lake Park's Jacob Nystrom got sent off for high sticking. Lushanko assisted on the tally. Jacob Speight also scored for Chisago Lakes Area. Other players who recorded assists for Chisago Lakes Area were Louis Kastenbauer, Bradee Thompson, and Jacob Breyfogle, who contributed one a piece. Chisago Lakes Area was unable to stop the Panthers from sending pucks towards the net, and Spring Lake Park eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Panthers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 14 penalty minutes. Spring Lake Park was led by Deven Sunell, who tallied two goals. Sunell scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:03 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Panthers earned a power play opportunity when Benjamin Knaak was put in the box for slashing. Noah Bormann picked up the assist. Sunell's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 8:21 left in the second period. Austen Long provided the assist. Spring Lake Park also got a goal from Brandon Richards as well. More assists for Spring Lake Park came via Jake Kroll, who had one and Nick Heid, who had two. Bryce Thompson recorded 29 saves for the Wildcats. JT Hirschi made 21 saves for Spring Lake Park on 25 shots. The Panthers registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
