Irondale uses early goal to top Coon Rapids, 4-2

The Irondale Knights beat the Coon Rapids Cardinals, 4-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

A goal 11:05 into the the first period by J.P. Stickney proved to be the game winner, and powered Irondale to the victory.

The Knights pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 16 penalty minutes.

Irondale was led by Logan Johnson, who had one goal. Johnson scored 57 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Irondale.

The Knights' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Coon Rapids power plays. Irondale kept Coon Rapids' goalie busy throughout the game, and Zachary St. John made 38 saves on 42 shots.

Irondale also got points from Jack Tuomie, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Irondale also got a goal from Tony Bridgeman as well. Other players who recorded assists for Irondale were William White, Barrett Reif, and Kyle O Connor, who each chipped in one.

The Cardinals were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 14 penalty minutes.

Coon Rapids was helped by Robbie Randall, who finished with one goal. Randall scored 9:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Coon Rapids. Cody Ancheta provided the assist. Zachary Havelka also scored for Coon Rapids. In addition, Coon Rapids received assists from Garret Dey, who had one.

Esko Aukee made 19 saves for the Knights on 21 shots. Irondale registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
