Passolt leads Maple Grove over Blaine, 7-5

Josh Passolt was all over the ice for the Maple Grove Crimson, as he tallied two goals and four assists in Maple Grove's 7-5 win over the Blaine Bengals.

Passolt's tallies came at 9:32 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Maple Grove and 14:34 into the third to make the score 7-5 Maple Grove.

The Crimson's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Blaine power plays. By firing 26 shots on goal, Maple Grove exceeded the 2.5 shots it averages per game this year. The Crimson surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Maple Grove has scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign.

Maple Grove also got points from Joe Franta, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Maple Grove included Nate Erickson, who had two and David Brumm and Josh Augustine, who each put in one. More assists for Maple Grove came via Sam Valerius, who had five and Parker Dean and Joe Norenberg, who contributed one a piece.

Blaine stifled the Crimson's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The defensemen of the Bengals were also effective in Maple Grove's zone, and came away with two goals. The 33 shots that Blaine put on net surpassed the Bengals' average of 1.3 shot per game this season.

Blaine was helped by Dallas Gerads, who registered two goals. Gerads scored the first of his two goals at 5:30 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Maple Grove. Jesse Norling assisted on the tally. Gerads' next tally made the score 6-5 Maple Grove with 13:53 left in the third period. Norling picked up the assist. Blaine also had goals scored by Mac Nadeau, who had one and Joey Lau, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Blaine were Tanner Tufte, Tyler Maki, Ian Scheid, and Jack Micek, who each chipped in one.

The Crimson's Calvin McKenney stopped 28 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Maple Grove incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Bailey Ketola rejected 19 shots on goal for the Bengals. Blaine incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
