Valerius' goals lift Maple Grove to 2-1 victory over AndoverMaple Grove Premier Thu, Feb 07, 2013 Sam Valerius was all over the ice for the Maple Grove Crimson, as he tallied two goals in Maple Grove's 2-1 win over the Andover Huskies. Valerius found the back of the net 11:24 into the third period to make the score 1-1 and again while 13:09 into the third to make the score 2-1 Maple Grove.Andover was stymied by the Crimson netminder Calvin McKenney, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. McKenney certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.85 entering the contest. Maple Grove excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. With 34 shots on target during the contest, the Crimson exceeded the 2.8 shots they average per game this year. More assists for Maple Grove came via Josh Passolt, Austin Ricklefs, and Nate Erickson, who contributed one a piece. The Huskies put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Maple Grove to score on any of its three power plays. The 27 shots that Andover put on net surpassed the Huskies' average of 2.3 shots per game this season. Andover was led by Christian Mohs, who scored the team's only goal. Mohs scored 10:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Andover. Brady Barthold picked up the assist. The Crimson incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Chase Perry made 32 saves for the Huskies on 34 shots. Andover incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
