Andover wins tough contest against Champlin Park, 5-3

The Andover Huskies gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Champlin Park Rebels.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Jared McComber's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

McComber had two goals and one assist to lead Andover. McComber scored the first of his two goals at 13:25 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Andover. Tyler Tomberlin provided the assist. McComber's next tally made the score 5-3 Andover with 3:57 left in the third period. Tomberlin picked up the assist.

The Huskies excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Andover put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 2.3 it averages per game. The Huskies surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Andover averages 2.8 goals per game.

Andover additionally got points from Tomberlin, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Andover also got a goal from Nick Maney as well. In addition, Andover received assists from Brit Brothen, who had three and Brady Barthold, Bjorn Kjelstad, and Zach Sitarz, who each chipped in one.

Champlin Park was helped by Calvin Spencer, who registered two goals. Spencer scored the first of his two goals at 16:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Champlin Park. Luke Dalman assisted on the tally. Spencer's next tally made the score 3-1 Champlin Park with 13:30 left in the third period. Bryce Plunkett picked up the assist. Champlin Park also got points from Plunkett, who also had one goal and one assist.

Chase Perry rejected 26 shots on goal for the Huskies. Andover incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Rebels' Tyler Nelson stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Champlin Park ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major.
