Elk River rips Anoka, 7-1Anoka Area Ice Arena Thu, Jan 24, 2013 The Anoka Tornadoes had trouble finding ways to stop the Elk River Elks, which beat Tornadoes, 7-1. Elk River racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 11.0 minutes per game the Elks had been spending in the box. Elk River put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Anoka to score on any of its four power plays. The Elks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Elk River averages 3.7 goals per contest. The Elks put 37 shots on net during the contest, more than the 4.3 they average per game. Elk River was helped by Jacob Jaremko, who racked up two goals and one assist. Jaremko scored the first of his two goals short handed at 5:24 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Elk River. A slashing call on Kyle Badger put the Elks on the penalty kill. Tim Sandford assisted on the tally. Jaremko's next tally short handed made the score 5-1 Elk River with 13:23 left in the third period. Wyatt Edge provided the assist. Elk River additionally got points from Edge, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Elk River also got a goal from Blake Hillman as well. Other players who recorded assists for Elk River were Jack Geissler, who had two and Andrew Zerban, Colton Budreau, and Joe Gonrowski, who each chipped in one. Elk River's MacLean Berglove stopped 14 shots out of the 15 that he faced. The Elks registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Robbie Goor rejected 30 shots on goal for the Tornadoes. Anoka incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
