Anoka beats Robbinsdale Armstrong 4-3 after comeback scare

The Robbinsdale Armstrong Falcons tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Anoka Tornadoes would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Anoka took a 4-1 lead during the second period, only to have Robbinsdale Armstrong storm back on a Ben Hansen goal 16:29 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

In a losing effort, the Falcons were paced by Hansen, who racked up two goals. Hansen scored the first of his two goals at 10:33 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Anoka. Eric Udelhoven assisted on the tally. Hansen's next tally made the score 4-3 Anoka with 3:31 left in the third period. Robbinsdale Armstrong had gotten the advantage when the Tornadoes' Drew McLaughlin was sent off for boarding. Cole Goergen provided the assist.

Anoka surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Tornadoes have scored at the pace of 1.7 goal per game during the current campaign.

Anoka was helped by Chase West, who registered one goal and one assist. West scored on the power play 25 seconds into the second period to make the score Anoka. Kristian Manthey assisted on the tally. Anoka also got points from Cody Pinewski, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Andrew Dallum, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Anoka were Alex Orn, who had two.

The Falcons managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Robbinsdale Armstrong wound up below its season average of 7.0 penalty minutes per game.

Robbinsdale Armstrong also got a goal from Shea Borer as well. In addition, Robbinsdale Armstrong received assists from Kristian Evans, who had two.

Robbie Goor recorded 22 saves for the Tornadoes. Anoka totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-1 on the power play. The Falcons' Grant Mathiason stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Robbinsdale Armstrong registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
