Centennial downs Coon Rapids, 5-2Centennial Sports Arena Thu, Dec 13, 2012 The Coon Rapids Cardinals lost to the Centennial Cougars, 5-2. Coon Rapids was unable to stop Centennial from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Centennial outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Cougars average 2.6 goals per contest. Centennial was helped by Will Juergens, who grabbed one goal. Juergens scored 2:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Centennial. Colin Hughes provided the assist. Centennial additionally got points from Hans Gorowsky, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Andrew Bertrand also scored for Centennial. More assists for Centennial came via Wyatt Close, David Thill, Kenny Sinna, Adam Anderson, and Randy Hoff, who each chipped in one. The Cardinals put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their five power plays. Coon Rapids' offense was handcuffed by Centennial's defensive play, and the Cardinals managed only 12 shots on goal during the game. The defensemen of Coon Rapids were also effective in the Cougars' zone, and came away with two goals. The Cardinals were led by Sam Naegele, who finished with two goals. Naegele scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:02 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Centennial. Coon Rapids had gotten the advantage when Centennial's Thill was sent off for tripping. Jake Bruner picked up the assist. Naegele's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Centennial with 13:00 left in the third period. A checking from behind penalty on Will Schwartz had put the Cardinals on the power play. Seth Johnson assisted on the tally. In addition, Coon Rapids received assists from Cody Ancheta and Justin Ball, who contributed one a piece. Blake Miller recorded 10 saves for the Cougars. Centennial ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Ball rejected 34 shots on goal for Coon Rapids. The Cardinals incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
