Maple Grove rolls over Robbinsdale Armstrong, 6-1New Hope North Sat, Dec 08, 2012 The Robbinsdale Armstrong Falcons had trouble finding ways to stop the Maple Grove Crimson, which beat Falcons, 6-1. Sam Valerius was all over the ice for Maple Grove, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Valerius scored the first of his two goals at 25 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Maple Grove. Nate Erickson picked up the assist. Valerius' next tally made the score 5-1 Maple Grove with 4:56 left in the second period. An elbowing penalty on Eric Udelhoven had put the Crimson on the power play. Chris Freemark assisted on the tally. Maple Grove pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes. The Crimson found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Maple Grove averages 2.6 goals per game. The Crimson took advantage of Robbinsdale Armstrong's penalties, tallying three goals off of four power play opportunities. The defensemen of Maple Grove were also effective in the Falcons' zone, and came away with two goals. By firing 35 shots on goal, the Crimson exceeded the 5.6 shots they average per game this year. Maple Grove also got points from Joe Franta, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Erickson, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Josh Passolt also scored for Maple Grove. More assists for Maple Grove came via David Brumm and Joe Norenberg, who contributed one a piece. Robbinsdale Armstrong did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Falcons put an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. Robbinsdale Armstrong did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 13 shots on net to force 12 saves. Maple Grove's Calvin McKenney stopped 12 shots out of the 13 that he faced. Brendan Murphy rejected 29 shots on goal for the Falcons. Robbinsdale Armstrong totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play.
