Anoka falls to Maple Grove after surprising comeback

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Maple Grove Crimson battled back to claim a 3-2 victory over the Anoka Tornadoes.

Maple Grove never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Crimson trailed 2-0 after a goal by Anoka's Chase West at 12:39 in the first period. Maple Grove tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Joe Norenberg at 11:14 in the third period. The Crimson netted the game winner at 12:16 in the third period on a goal by Norenberg.

Maple Grove was led by Josh Augustine, who had one goal.

The Crimson managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Maple Grove wound up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. By firing 43 shots on goal, the Crimson exceeded the 7.0 shots they average per game this year.

Nate Erickson also scored for Maple Grove. In addition, Maple Grove received assists from Sam Valerius and Joe Franta, who contributed one a piece.

The Tornadoes managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Anoka finished below its season average of 6.0 penalty minutes per game. The Tornadoes found themselves stymied offensively, and got off a mere 13 shots against Maple Grove's defense.

More assists for Anoka came via Drew McLaughlin and Jacob Mack, who each chipped in one.

John Danielson recorded 11 saves for the Crimson. Maple Grove registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Robbie Goor made 40 saves for Anoka on 43 shots. The Tornadoes registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.
