Hopkins hangs on, beats Coon Rapids 2-1

Joshua Laven gave the Hopkins Royals the lead in the first period, and the Coon Rapids Cardinals was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-1.

Hopkins took over the lead for good with a goal by Laven at 1:27 in the first period. Trace Bolstad assisted on the tally.

The Royals were sparked by Jim Copouls, who registered one goal. Copouls scored on the power play 4:53 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hopkins. Matthew Koch picked up the assist.

Coon Rapids was unable to stop Hopkins from sending pucks towards the net, and the Royals eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

Other players who recorded assists for Hopkins were Time Weiner, who had one.

The Cardinals were led by Sam Naegele, who scored the team's only goal. Naegele scored on the power play 13:53 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Hopkins. Seth Johnson provided the assist.

Hopkins' Sam Dalton stopped 15 shots out of the 16 that he faced. The Royals ended with no penalties and went 1-for-0 on the power play. Justin Ball made 40 saves for Coon Rapids on 42 shots. The Cardinals finished the contest with no penalties and went 1-for-0 with the man advantage.
