Bloomington Jefferson beats Lakeville South 6-4 after comeback scare

The Lakeville South Cougars tried their best to erase a five-goal deficit, but the Bloomington Jefferson Jaguars would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-4.

Bloomington Jefferson took a 5-0 lead during the second period, only to have Lakeville South storm back on a Justin Doeden goal 7:03 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Jaguars' offense rang up 38 shots on the Cougars' net. Bloomington Jefferson's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in four goals to Lakeville South's power play unit.

The Jaguars were led by Collin Hernon, who tallied one goal and two assists. Hernon scored 1:00 into the second period to make the score 4-0 Bloomington Jefferson. Tyler Johnson picked up the assist. Bloomington Jefferson also had goals scored by Zac Beek, who had one and Johnny Panvica and Jono Lindquist, who each put in two. More assists for Bloomington Jefferson came via Cory Rickheim, Charlie Straus, Ryan Freese, and Jack Weiss, who each chipped in one and Tony Roisum and Charlie Batch, who contributed two a piece.

The Cougars' offense was clicking better than usual and put 30 shots on goal during the game, better than the 0.9 shots per game they average.

Lakeville South additionally got points from Cameron Jackson, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Nick Swaney also scored for Lakeville South. In addition, Lakeville South received assists from Mack Farley, who had two and Nick Oelrich, Leo Steinmetz, Jake Rahbain, and Weston Baumann, who each chipped in one.

Grant Martens rejected 26 shots on goal for Bloomington Jefferson. The Jaguars totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-1 on the power play. Tyler Schumacher recorded 32 saves for Lakeville South. The Cougars incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
