Duluth East uses early goal to top Lakeville South, 4-2

Alex Toscano gave the Duluth East Greyhounds the lead in the first period, and the Lakeville South Cougars was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 4-2.

Toscano provided Duluth East with the game-winning tally when he scored 10:34 into the the first period. Meirs Moore provided the assist.

Jack Forbort had two goals to lead the Greyhounds to victory. Forbort found the back of the net 8:12 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 39 seconds into the second to make the score 3-1 Duluth East.

Duluth East's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Lakeville South power plays. With 40 shots on target during the contest, the Greyhounds exceeded the 5.7 shots they average per game this year.

Duluth East additionally got points from Ryan Lundgren, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Toscano, who also registered one goal and two assists. In addition, Duluth East received assists from Phil Beaulieu, who had one.

Lakeville South kept Duluth East's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dylan Parker made 38 saves on 40 shots.

The Cougars were helped by Drew Byers, who grabbed one goal. Byers scored 9:06 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Duluth East. Nick Oelrich assisted on the tally. Lakeville South also got points from Oelrich, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Lakeville South were Nick Swaney and Cameron Jackson, who contributed one a piece.

The Greyhounds incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors and had no power play opportunities. Tyler Schumacher made 36 saves for Lakeville South on 40 shots.
