Apple Valley's comeback falls short, Lakeville North wins 5-3Apple Valley Sports Arena Sat, Jan 26, 2013 The Lakeville North Panthers came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Apple Valley Eagles, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory. Lakeville North led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Panthers' Jack Diercks's scored short handed at 2:31 in the third period to put Lakeville North up 4-1. Tristan Hazlett was all over the ice for the Panthers, as he tallied two goals in the win. Hazlett scored at 6:29 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lakeville North and again while 16:33 into the third to make the score 5-3 Lakeville North. Lakeville North's penalty kill excelled, as the Panthers gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. Lakeville North forced Apple Valley goalie Mac Wartick to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Panthers outdid their season average for goals scored. Lakeville North averages 2.8 goals per game. The Panthers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 14 penalty minutes. Lakeville North also got points from Diercks, who also registered one goal and one assist. Lakeville North also got a goal from Connor Hyden as well. More assists for Lakeville North came via Sam Petrick, who had one and Matt Ostdiek, who had two. The Eagles' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Lakeville North power plays.
