Smith leads Apple Valley over Bloomington Kennedy, 4-1

The Apple Valley Eagles' Jacob Smith had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 4-1 win over the Bloomington Kennedy Eagles.

Smith scored 14:35 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Apple Valley. Brady Casperson picked up the assist. Smith dished an assist on Logan Kohorst's goal that made the score 3-1 Apple Valley at 2:28 into the third period. He added another helper on Kohorst's goal that made the score 4-1 Apple Valley at 17:00 into the third period.

Apple Valley avoided man-down situations, finishing with one major for 15 minutes in penalty time. Even so, the Eagles surpassed their low season average of 11.0 penalty minutes per game. Apple Valley's offense rang up 40 shots on Bloomington Kennedy's net. The Eagles surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Apple Valley averages 1.6 goal per contest. The Eagles got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Apple Valley also got a goal from Mason Preston as well. In addition, Apple Valley received assists from Calvin Leong, Collin Trankel, and Brandon Smith, who each chipped in one.

Apple Valley's defense shut down the Eagles' forwards for much of the game, and Bloomington Kennedy got off only 10 shots during the contest.

The Eagles were led by Jacob Wells, who scored the team's only goal. Wells scored on the power play 3:28 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Bloomington Kennedy. Tait Carlson assisted on the tally.

Mac Wartick made nine saves for the Eagles on 10 shots. Apple Valley registered two goals on zero power play opportunities. David Johnson recorded 36 saves for Bloomington Kennedy. The Eagles avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored one goal off of one power plays.
