Apple Valley wins tough contest against Eastview, 3-2Apple Valley Sports Arena Tue, Dec 18, 2012 The game between the Apple Valley Eagles and the Eastview Lightning was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Apple Valley emerged with a 3-2 win. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Christian Smith secured the win for the Eagles with a goal in the third period. Apple Valley was led by Smith, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Smith scored on the power play 15:13 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Apple Valley. Mason Preston picked up the assist. Apple Valley also got points from Preston, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Dylan Reynolds also scored for Apple Valley. More assists for Apple Valley came via Collin Trankel, who had one. Eastview forced the Eagles goalie Shane Van Dusartz to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Lightning could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game. Eastview was helped by Cole Cooper, who racked up one goal. Cooper scored 1:59 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Mitchell Cerrato assisted on the tally. Eastview also got a goal from Ryan McNamara as well. In addition, Eastview received assists from Mike Stillings and Pierce Erickson, who each chipped in one. Apple Valley's Van Dusartz stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Eagles incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Matthew Montgomery made 17 saves for the Lightning on 20 shots. Eastview registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
