The Prior Lake Lakers relied on the scoring touch of Gavin Smith, who netted two goals, to beat the Orono Spartans, 5-2.

Smith's tallies came at 3:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Prior Lake and 7:09 into the first to make the score 2-0 Prior Lake.

Prior Lake's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Lakers average 2.8 goals per contest.

Prior Lake also got points from Blake Busch, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Jack Murphy also scored for Prior Lake. More assists for Prior Lake came via Jeff Pieper and Will Reedy, who each chipped in one and Austin Hill and Ben Keckeisen, who contributed two a piece.

Orono put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Prior Lake to score on any of its three power plays.

The Spartans were led by Joey Luedtke, who finished with two goals. Luedtke scored the first of his two goals at 9:42 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Prior Lake. Gavin Payne assisted on the tally. Luedtke's next tally made the score 5-2 Prior Lake with 6:28 left in the third period. Orono had gained a power play chance when Joey Kleven was whistled for slashing. Danny Willson provided the assist. In addition, Orono received assists from Jake Flemmer, who had one.

Jordan Moran made 19 saves for the Lakers on 21 shots. Prior Lake incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Ryan Breon rejected 17 shots on goal for the Spartans. Orono incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
