Mounds View falls to Hastings in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

Mark Huneke gave the Hastings Raiders a 6-5 (OT) victory over the Mounds View Mustangs when he scored 45 seconds into the extra period.

Hastings came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Raiders was down 4-2 after a goal by Mounds View's Darian Romanko at 16:24 in the second period. Hastings knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Bailey Siewart at 7:35 in the third period.

Blake Berg was all over the ice for the Raiders, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Berg scored 15:54 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Mounds View. Brandon Boogreen assisted on the tally.

Hastings avoided man-down situations, totaling one major for 15 minutes in penalty time. However, the total the 9.0 minutes in penalty time per game the Raiders had been averaging this year. Hastings forced the Mustangs goalie Brandon Smith to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots. The Raiders found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Hastings averages 3.8 goals per game.

Hastings also got points from Huneke, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Zach Mellick, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Siewart, who also registered one goal and one assist. Joe Shingledecker also scored for Hastings. In addition, Hastings received assists from Matt Koch, Mikey Junker, and Colin Shoen, who each chipped in one.

With 22 shots on target during the contest, Mounds View exceeded the 0.1 shots it averages per game this year.

The Mustangs were helped by Andrew Bjorklund, who racked up three goals. Mounds View additionally got points from Romanko, who also had two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Mounds View were AJ Rupert, Matt Hunt, and Andrew Gretsch, who contributed one a piece and Jacob Tretsven and Max Knutson, who each chipped in two.

Michael Barr recorded 17 saves for the Raiders. Hastings registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Brandon Smith made 42 saves for Mounds View on 48 shots. The Mustangs totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play.
