Shepard stymies White Bear Lake, Grand Rapids wins 3-1

The Grand Rapids Thunderhawks relied on the sparkling performance of Hunter Shepard in net to grab a 3-1 win against the White Bear Lake Bears.

Grand Rapids was led by Avery Peterson, who had one goal. Peterson scored on the power play 39 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Grand Rapids. Jake Bischoff picked up the assist.

The Thunderhawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five White Bear Lake power plays. Grand Rapids put 26 shots on net during the contest, more than the 7.4 it averages per game. The Thunderhawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game.

Grand Rapids also got points from Jonah Bischoff, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Bischoff, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Grand Rapids were David Horsmann, who had one.

The White Bear Lake penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 14.0 minutes per game the Bears had been spending in the box. White Bear Lake could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Bears average 4.2 goals per game. The 28 shots that White Bear Lake put on net surpassed the Bears' average of 1.7 shot per game this season.

White Bear Lake was led by Jake Wahlin, who scored the team's only goal. Wahlin scored 9:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 White Bear Lake. Seth King provided the assist.

Hunter Shepard made 27 saves for Grand Rapids on 28 shots. The Thunderhawks registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Max Green rejected 23 shots on goal for the Bears.
