Mounds View beats Forest Lake 11-6 as Elvidge gets hat trick

Ryan Elvidge netted a hat trick to lead the Mounds View Mustangs over the Forest Lake Rangers, 11-6.

Elvidge's first goal came 10:51 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:58 into the first and at 13:13 into the second.

Mounds View's penalty kill excelled, as the Mustangs gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The Mounds View penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Mustangs surpassed its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. Mounds View found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Mustangs average 5.0 goals per game. Mounds View put 38 shots on net during the contest, more than the 0.6 it averages per game.

Mounds View also got points from Matt Hunt, who also had one goal and one assist, Darian Romanko, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and John Sarafolean, who also registered one goal and one assist. Mounds View also had goals scored by Andrew Bjorklund, who had three and Tucker Gran and Griff Anderson, who scored one goal each. More assists for Mounds View came via AJ Rupert, who had two, Matt Pfenning and Andrew Gretsch, who each chipped in one, and Jacob Tretsven and Max Knutson, who contributed three a piece.

Forest Lake was helped by Cody Rogala, who grabbed two goals. Rogala scored the first of his two goals at 2:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Forest Lake. John Suess provided the assist. Rogala's next tally made the score 3-1 Forest Lake with 12:20 left in the first period. Brett Gravelle assisted on the tally. Forest Lake additionally got points from Gravelle, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Weston Kilpela, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Forest Lake also got a goal from Kyle Parker as well. In addition, Forest Lake received assists from Ryan Herbert, who had one and Paul Stehr, who had two.

Brandon Smith rejected 20 shots on goal for the Mustangs. Mounds View registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Collin Peterson recorded 27 saves for the Rangers. Forest Lake incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
