Luverne hangs on, beats Breckenridge/Wahpeton 2-0

The Luverne Cardinals beat the Breckenridge/Wahpeton Blades, 2-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

A goal 2:44 into the the first period by Skyler Wenninger proved to be the game winner, and powered Luverne to the victory Chaz Smedsrud picked up the assist.

Wenninger had a great game for the Cardinals, netting two goals.

Luverne's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Breckenridge/Wahpeton power plays. The Cardinals were held below their usual level of production. Luverne averages 6.3 goals per game. The Cardinals kept Breckenridge/Wahpeton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Withuski made 33 saves on 35 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Luverne were Austin Maxwell, Jonny Solma, and Connor Hoffman, who contributed one a piece.
