Hagstrom's hat trick boosts Breckenridge/Wahpeton over Wadena-Deer Creek, 5-4Breckenridge/Wahpeton Tue, Dec 04, 2012 The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines could not stop the Breckenridge/Wahpeton Blades' Austin Hagstrom, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-4 win. Hagstrom's first goal came 12:13 into the first period. He then added goals at 25 seconds into the second and at 3:38 into the second.Breckenridge/Wahpeton surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Blades average 2.3 goals per contest. Breckenridge/Wahpeton also got a goal from Tyler Gripentrog as well. In addition, Breckenridge/Wahpeton received assists from Jake Richels, who had two and Zach Reiff, Brandon Wixo, Joseph Smith, Tyler Wohlers, Aaron Neppl, and Elijah Hansen, who each chipped in one. Wadena-Deer Creek could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Wolverines put an average of 6.3 pucks into the net per game. Wadena-Deer Creek forced Breckenridge/Wahpeton goalie Michael Withuski to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. The Wolverines were helped by Mike Paavola, who finished with one goal. Paavola scored on the power play 7:35 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Breckenridge/Wahpeton. Wadena-Deer Creek earned a power play opportunity when Easton Erbes was put in the box for cross checking. Bridger Pettit assisted on the tally. Wadena-Deer Creek additionally got points from Mitchell Swanson, who also registered one goal and one assist and Pettit, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Otto Asp also scored for Wadena-Deer Creek. More assists for Wadena-Deer Creek came via Mike Behl, Christian Berg, Dylan Phillips, and Shane Motschenbacher, who contributed one a piece. Withuski recorded 40 saves for the Blades. Breckenridge/Wahpeton totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Wesley Janson made 21 saves for the Wolverines on 26 shots. Wadena-Deer Creek incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
