Larson nets hat trick, leads WSFLG to 9-4 win over Pine City/Rush CityPine City High School Tue, Feb 05, 2013 Matt Larson lifted the WSFLG Blizzard to a 9-4 victory with a hat trick against the Pine City/Rush City Dragons. Larson got on the scoresheet 7:33 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:52 into the first and at 5:42 into the third.WSFLG led 5-1 after the opening frame the first period and maintained a healthy margin after. The Blizzard put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pine City/Rush City to score on any of its three power plays. WSFLG's offense rang up 52 shots on the Dragons' net. The Blizzard bested their season scoring average. WSFLG has scored at the pace of 6.9 goals per game during the current campaign. WSFLG also got points from Ryan Curtis, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Alex Hopkins, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Aaron Dietmeier also scored for WSFLG. More assists for WSFLG came via Brandon Roufs, who had two, Jake Langevin, who had three, and Drew Alderman, Matt Smith, Austin Thoreen, Andrew Coy, and Lucas Willis, who each chipped in one. Pine City/Rush City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Dragons were helped by TJ Gross, who had one goal. Gross scored 4:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pine City/Rush City. Adam Swanson assisted on the tally. Pine City/Rush City additionally got points from Dewy Carr, who also registered one goal and one assist and Chris Maki, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Pine City/Rush City also got a goal from Conner Werner as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pine City/Rush City were Colby Pavelka and Jake Kleinsasser, who contributed one a piece. Brandon Roufs rejected 20 shots on goal for the Blizzard. WSFLG incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Tony Pitzen recorded 43 saves for Pine City/Rush City. The Dragons incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
