Early goals doom North Branch, falls to Minneapolis, 9-2

The North Branch Vikings fell behind early, and the Minneapolis Novas kept piling on the points on the way to a 9-2 victory.

Minneapolis got the win on the strength of a great game by Peter Hacker, who had one goal and three assists. Hacker scored 6:44 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Minneapolis. Stellan Christensen assisted on the tally.

The Novas kept North Branch's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cedric Geldon made 42 saves on 51 shots. Minneapolis outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Novas average 6.5 goals per contest. Minneapolis' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Minneapolis also got points from Henry Christman, who also registered two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Minneapolis included Joe Gantenbein and Ross Nesbit, who each put in one and Tony Pnewski and Josh Martin, who scored two goals each. More assists for Minneapolis came via Grant Miller, who had two and Evan Winter, Cris Grassel, and Robert Adams, who contributed one a piece.

The Vikings did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting seven shots on net to force five saves.

The Novas' TJ Moseley stopped five shots out of the seven that he faced. Minneapolis incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. North Branch incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
