Early goals doom Becker-Big Lake, falls to Minneapolis, 13-1

The Minneapolis Novas jumped out to a five-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Becker-Big Lake Eagles, 13-1.

Minneapolis got the win with help from a great game by Henry Christman, who had four goals and two assists. Christman notched his first tally 5:59 into the first period. He then added goals at 8:35 into the first, at 9:36 into the second, and at 10:24 into the third.

The Novas kept Becker-Big Lake's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ben Manzke made 25 saves on 38 shots. Minneapolis found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Novas have scored at the pace of 5.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Minneapolis got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Minneapolis additionally got points from Joe Guimont, who also had one goal and one assist, Tony Pnewski, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Ian Whitehead, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Josh Martin, who also registered two goals and one assist. Minneapolis also got a goal from Ross Nesbit as well. In addition, Minneapolis received assists from Josh Huisken, who had three, Joe Gantenbein, Jimmy Roth, and Stellan Christensen, who each chipped in one, and Peter Hacker and Grant Miller, who contributed two a piece.

The Eagles did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Becker-Big Lake averages 4.5 goals per game. The Eagles found themselves stymied offensively, and got off a mere 14 shots against the Novas' defense.

Becker-Big Lake was led by Taylor Giving, who scored the team's only goal. Giving scored 4:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Becker-Big Lake. Zach Veau assisted on the tally.

Erik Toftner recorded 13 saves for Minneapolis. The Novas incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Eagles incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities.
