River Lakes beats Becker-Big Lake 8-2 as Herges gets hat trick

Jake Herges lifted the River Lakes Stars to an 8-2 victory with a hat trick against the Becker-Big Lake Eagles.

Herges' first goal came 13:01 into the first period. He then added goals at 16:15 into the first and at 4:30 into the second.

River Lakes' offense rang up 42 shots on Becker-Big Lake's net. The Stars surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, River Lakes averages 3.3 goals per contest.

River Lakes also got points from Ethan Parsons, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for River Lakes included Austin Stone, who had one and Dylan Jude, who had three. Other players who recorded assists for River Lakes were Evan Bayer, Joe Spaulding, Nike Bergeson, and Grant Thompson, who contributed one a piece and Stefan Tomovic and Daiton Johnson, who each chipped in two.

The Eagles were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Becker-Big Lake had been averaging 13.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Eagles excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Becker-Big Lake did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Eagles put an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game.

Becker-Big Lake was led by Tucker Wilkendorf, who tallied one goal. Wilkendorf scored 13:09 into the second period to make the score 4-2 River Lakes. Becker-Big Lake also got a goal from Jason Tonneslan as well.

The Stars' Trevor Meed stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. River Lakes ended with 38 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. The Stars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Austin Gerrken was ejected from the game. Ben Manzke made 34 saves for the Eagles on 42 shots. Becker-Big Lake registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
