GAME RECAP

Waseca blows out Worthington, 6-1

Worthington High School    Sat, Jan 26, 2013

The Worthington Trojans had trouble finding ways to stop the Waseca Bluejays, which beat Trojans, 6-1.

Worthington was stymied by Waseca netminder Austin Stroda, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. The solid play of Stroda will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 5.91.

The Trojans' power play was ineffective against the Bluejays' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Waseca put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Worthington to score on any of its eight power plays. The Bluejays surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Waseca averages 2.8 goals per game. The Bluejays' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Waseca finished with 18 penalty minutes.

The Bluejays were led by Michael Kunz, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Kunz scored 11:46 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Waseca. CJ Nordquis assisted on the tally. Waseca also had goals scored by Michael Priebe, who had two and JP Eykyn, Daniel Stroda, and Wyatt Krampitz, who each put in one. In addition, Waseca received assists from Brett Whitehurst and Cody Ulfers, who each chipped in one.

The Trojans' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Waseca power plays. Worthington could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Trojans average 3.4 goals per game. Worthington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game.

Ryan Scholtes rejected 22 shots on goal for the Trojans.
