Worthington falls apart in second, loses to Marshall, 7-0

The Worthington Trojans allowed the Marshall Tigers to net five goals during the second period and fell, 7-0.

Leo Zerr had two goals and one assist to lead Marshall. Zerr scored the first of his two goals at 6:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Marshall. Corey Clark provided the assist. Zerr's next tally made the score 7-0 Marshall with 17:25 left in the third period. Clark assisted on the tally.

The Tigers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Worthington was unable to stop Marshall from sending pucks towards the net, and the Tigers eventually piled up 49 shots on goal.

Marshall additionally got points from Alex Buysse, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Derek Rasmussen also scored for Marshall. More assists for Marshall came via Quinn Horvath, Blaine Moran, and Randy Louwagie, who each chipped in one.

The Trojans forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Worthington surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game.

Adam Cavazos recorded 19 saves for Marshall. The Tigers totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 3-for-9 on the power play. Ryan Scholtes rejected 42 shots on goal for the Trojans.
