Janssen nets hat trick, leads Windom Area to 9-1 win over Worthington

Travis Janssen netted a hat trick to lead the Windom Area Eagles over the Worthington Trojans, 9-1.

Janssen got on the scoresheet 9:45 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:25 into the second and at 28 seconds into the third.

Windom Area gained an early advantage, leading 6-0 by the end of the first period.

Worthington was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Eagles were able to score four times while on the power play.

Windom Area put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Trojans to score on any of their four power plays. The Eagles forced Worthington goalie Rylan Scholtes to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. Windom Area bested its season scoring average. This season, the Eagles average 6.0 goals per contest.

Windom Area also had goals scored by Mitchell Macek, who had one, Devin Neilsen, who had two, and Zach Bartosh, who had three. In addition, Windom Area received assists from Kyle Luhmann, who had three and Ryan Clark and Andrew Hirsch, who contributed one a piece.

The Trojans did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 13 shots on net to force 12 saves.

Worthington also got a goal from Levi Leach as well.

Tyler McGowan recorded 12 saves for Windom Area. The Eagles incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Rylan Scholtes made 40 saves for Worthington on 49 shots. The Trojans ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major.
