Sauk Rapids-Rice rolls over Willmar, 7-3

The Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm were firing on all cylinders against the Willmar Cardinals, and when the final buzzer sounded Storm emerged with a 7-3 win.

Sauk Rapids-Rice got the win thanks to a great game by Travis Kothenbeutel, who had two goals and one assist. Kothenbeutel scored the first of his two goals at 8:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Sauk Rapids-Rice. Luke Althaus picked up the assist. Kothenbeutel's next tally made the score 2-0 Sauk Rapids-Rice with 8:04 left in the first period. Ross Chapa provided the assist.

Willmar was unable to stop the Storm from sending pucks towards the net, and Sauk Rapids-Rice eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. The Storm bested their season scoring average. This season, Sauk Rapids-Rice averages 2.8 goals per contest.

Sauk Rapids-Rice additionally got points from Mathew Meyer, who also registered two goals and one assist and Brandon Duray, who also had one goal and one assist. Sauk Rapids-Rice also got a goal from Tyler Long as well. Other players who recorded assists for Sauk Rapids-Rice were Ryan Rutar and Joey Streeter, who each chipped in one.

The Cardinals' offense operated below they season average. Willmar puts an average of 6.6 pucks into the net per game.

The Cardinals were led by Hunter Schneider, who tallied one goal and two assists. Schneider scored 2:56 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Sauk Rapids-Rice. Zech Streed also scored for Willmar.

The Storm's William Mortenson stopped 19 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Sauk Rapids-Rice incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Levi Goosman made 26 saves for Willmar on 33 shots. The Cardinals totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play.
