Waseca survives Worthington comeback, wins 3-2

The Worthington Trojans tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Waseca Bluejays held on for a 3-2 victory.

Waseca took a 3-1 lead during the third period, only to have Worthington storm back on a Alex Kremer goal 16:34 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Bluejays pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 17 penalty minutes.

Waseca put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Trojans to score on any of their seven power plays. The Bluejays' offense rang up 39 shots on Worthington's net.

Waseca was led by JP Eykyn, who finished with one goal and one assist. Eykyn scored 11:43 into the third period to make the score Waseca. Brett Whitehurst picked up the assist. Waseca additionally got points from Cody Ulfers, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. CJ Nordquis also scored for Waseca. In addition, Waseca received assists from Wyatt Krampitz, who had one.

More assists for Worthington came via Andrew Johnson and Jacob Oberloh, who contributed one a piece.

The Bluejays' Zac Weichert stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Waseca registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Rylan Scholtes made 36 saves for the Trojans on 39 shots. Worthington incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
