Waseca blows out St. Paul Highland Park, 8-1

The Waseca Bluejays were firing on all cylinders against the St. Paul Highland Park Scots, and when the final buzzer sounded Bluejays emerged with an 8-1 win.

Brett Whitehurst had a great game for Waseca, netting two goals. Whitehurst scored at 3:27 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Waseca and again while 11:34 into the second to make the score 5-1 Waseca.

The Bluejays' offense rang up 55 shots on St. Paul Highland Park's net. Waseca's goal total was higher than its season average. The Bluejays have scored at the pace of 3.0 goals per game during the current campaign. Waseca got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Waseca additionally got points from Michael Kunz, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Joey Helms, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. JP Eykyn also scored for Waseca. Other players who recorded assists for Waseca were Jesse Ungs, Jack Paczkowski, and Josh Metzdorff, who each chipped in one.

The Scots did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 11 shots on net to force 10 saves.

St. Paul Highland Park was led by Connel McGough, who scored the team's only goal. McGough scored 14:23 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Waseca. Jackson Buelow picked up the assist.

The Bluejays' Zac Weichert stopped 10 shots out of the 11 that he faced. Waseca incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Howie Sands rejected 47 shots on goal for the Scots. St. Paul Highland Park totaled 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
