Waseca beats Fairmont 5-3 after comeback scareWaseca Thu, Jan 24, 2013 The Fairmont Cardinals tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Waseca Bluejays would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3. Waseca made the score 5-2 on a goal by Michael Priebe at 6:52 in the third period, and Fairmont got as close as 5-3 when Grant Becker scored 15:49 into the third period. The Bluejays got the win behind a great game by Cody Ulfers, who had two goals and one assist. Ulfers scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:19 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Waseca had gained a power play chance when Brock Johnson was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct. Wyatt Krampitz picked up the assist. Ulfers' next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Waseca with 5:03 left in the second period. CJ Nordquis provided the assist. The Bluejays bested their season scoring average. Waseca averages 2.7 goals per game. The Bluejays took advantage of the Cardinals' penalties, tallying three goals off of three power play opportunities. Waseca additionally got points from Krampitz, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Daniel Stroda also scored for Waseca. In addition, Waseca received assists from JP Eykyn, who had two. Fairmont also got a goal from Trason Arens as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fairmont were Matthew Lytle, Joshua Wills, and Greg Claeys, who contributed one a piece. Austin Stroda rejected 19 shots on goal for Waseca. The Bluejays ended with 38 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. Colton Cunning made 23 saves for Fairmont on 28 shots. The Cardinals incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
