Wadena-Deer Creek falls apart in second, loses to Park Rapids, 8-3

The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines allowed the Park Rapids Panthers to net four goals during the second period and fell, 8-3.

Park Rapids got the win behind a great game by Noah Macpherson, who had two goals and one assist. Macpherson scored the first of his two goals at 3:09 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Park Rapids. Frank Moren provided the assist. Macpherson's next tally made the score 4-1 Park Rapids with 3:53 left in the second period. Moren picked up the assist.

The Panthers' offense rang up 51 shots on Wadena-Deer Creek's net. Park Rapids surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Panthers average 3.0 goals per game.

Park Rapids also got points from Moren, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Kade Navritil, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Connor Kennedy, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Raul Garcia also scored for Park Rapids. Other players who recorded assists for Park Rapids were Chris Walters, who had two and Ian Johnson, Luke Jaeger, Jeff Jacobson, and Ryan DeLaHunt, who contributed one a piece.

The Wolverines managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for 12 minutes in penalty time. Wadena-Deer Creek ended up below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Wolverines were helped by Bridger Pettit, who finished with one goal and one assist. Pettit scored 10:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Park Rapids. Mitchell Swanson assisted on the tally. Wadena-Deer Creek additionally got points from Swanson, who also had one goal and one assist. Wadena-Deer Creek also got a goal from Christian Berg as well. In addition, Wadena-Deer Creek received assists from Mike Behl, who had one.

Cody Brumbaugh recorded 19 saves for Park Rapids. The Panthers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors and had no power play opportunities. Wesley Janson made 43 saves for Wadena-Deer Creek on 51 shots. The Wolverines registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. For Wadena-Deer Creek, Dylan Phillips was ejected from the game.
